ABOUT US

Mission

Given the lack of resources relating to the legal industry, Future Lawyers was founded to educate, empower and inspire youth about the legal industry through events and conferences. By partaking in our conferences, attendees will learn how to get into law school, network with like-minded peers, receive insights and practice for the LSAT, learn about various fields of law and possible career trajectories, and receive a myriad of useful tips and advice from reputable lawyers, judges, and members of parliament.

Our Story

2019

Founded

Founded in August 2019 by Amy Li and Lauren Koek, Future Lawyers (FL) is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about the field of law. FL stems from our realization that there were many opportunities for students in fields such as Medicine and STEM but none in Law. Thus, we aim to bridge this gap. As a youth non-profit, we want to motivate aspiring lawyers and inform the next generation on everything they need and want to know about the legal world.

2020

First Conference

In 2020, FL held their first in-person conference, featuring reputable speakers such as Cory Wanless, a Litigation Lawyer; Roman Baber, a Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament; among others. Though the conference was canceled by the COVID-19 lockdown, they remained dedicated to their cause and held their first virtual conference instead with more than 250 registrants from over 13 countries worldwide. The Future Lawyers' family continues to grow with chapters in Toronto, Halifax, and Singapore.

2021

Expansion

Though Amy took her leave in August 2021 to pursue her own unique passions, Lauren continues to lead the Future Lawyers Chapters, and she works with law firms, lawyers and other organizations worldwide to bring even more opportunities for students to have the chance to engage in the legal profession. For instance, in November 2021, they launched their own law terminology certification program in partnership with the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), giving students across Ontario the opportunity to learn about the relevance of the legal terminology in everyday life and help them gain a better understanding of the legal world around them.
